Dear
Colleagues,
I have just returned
from a visit to the campus of Florida Gulf State U. and everyone there is ready
to welcome us when we arrive for our conference. The dates are July 24-26 The
food service operation and the residence halls are top notch. The meeting
facilities are state-of-the-art. The campus facilities and the catering
department will facilitate a great “Friendship Night” party for us on Saturday.
Plan on having a fun and relaxing evening. Network and make friends with fellow
conferees while you enjoy the Florida Bar-B-Que.
We will have a brief business
meeting during the last time bloc on Saturday to receive the budget and elect
officers and board members. Anyone desiring to help lead the organization is
invited to run. Nominations will be made from the floor, but advance written
announcements of interest or intention are welcomed and will be disseminated.
NSTA has established the “Shirley
Award” named for Shirley Kirsten, founding president of NSTA It is to be awarded
for excellence in substitute teaching. I will be appointing a committee to draw
up the requirements and procedures for the prize. If you would like to serve on
this panel, please let me know. Both practicing substitutes and Teacher
Educators are needed.
The
screening committee is accepting applications to present at the conference.
Sessions will be 55 minutes, but a double block may be arranged. Contact the
chair, Ms. Judith Kieffer, by email at

for further details.
The Gulf Coast University Bell Tower
pictured here actually sounds the hour during the day, a charming combination of
contemporary architecture and traditional function.
Please feel free to contact me for
additional information on the conference
